Countdown to FrightFest | 7/21/2008

Peter Calvesbert has carved an exclusive event box figurine for the occasion, featuring a trio of bats. Never before has he carved this fascinating and ecologically vital species.

Ebony on the Beach | 7/18/2008

“Ebony” the donkey and “Ivory” the elephant arrive stateside mid August, just before the Democratic and Republican conventions. But before the heated political battle is in full swing, the Dem’s mascot plans a trip to a British seaside resort. Donning a saddle, he will sit on the beach and offer rides to children. Sponsored by The Clothes Rail, he is seen wearing a “Loopy Lady” headband. Notice the crab between his hooves and 8st near his rump. Peter has observed that children are getting heavier and heavier and felt the donkey needed to impose a weight limit to prevent his legs from buckling.

Modesty Prevails in the UK | 6/11/2008

Peter’s sculptures are known for their humor and naturalism. With “Family Ties”, his depiction of the Proboscis monkey, this posed a bit of a dilemma. A prominent feature of this species is its genitalia. Being the keen wildlife observer that he is, Peter decided to go ahead and bare all.

Cruel and Inhuman or Rich and Savory? | 6/4/2008

An animal rights activist contends cruelty. A fine food connoisseur says savory. Most of us in-betweeners side with the activist. Foie Gras, or “Fat Liver” in French, is a delicacy, but the way it is produced – through force feeding ducks or geese – is ghastly. Even Arnold Schwarzenegger is banning its production in California by 2012.
